Ah, I adore this family!  I have known Amy for about 6 months now as she was my boudoir client first.  She has since become a dear, dear friend with a golden heart and the family to match!  She spoke so highly of her husband and daughter from the very first time I met her and through other clients she has brought my way (both friends and family), no one has ever had a bad thing to say about them – so to say I was excited to meet them is an understatement!

Our session was actually rained out 3 weeks in a row and then Amy and her daughter Hannah got into a horrible wreck.  They were still willing to go through with the shoot but after rain threatened to ruin it anyway, we decided it was best to wait one more week.  After all, they were black and blue and swollen with bruises and who wants memories of that?

I was not disappointed one bit when I showed up at the barn the day of their shoot.  The shoot took place on her mother in-law’s farm in Winston Salem and the location and weather was perfect.  Her husband was just a studly and sweet and kind as she claimed him to be and her daughter Hannah was soft spoken and so, so beautiful!  Jade drove in from Greensboro to do Amy’s makeup and we all sat in the barn, surrounded by horses, young girls riding everywhere and talked and laughed.   And laughed.  And laughed.  This family loves to laugh and I have to say, laughing is one of my most favorite simple pleasures!

Amy, thank you SO much for introducing me to your amazing family and they were everything and more you had built them up to be.  You guys are such an inspiration to families everywhere and I really had a blast on your shoot!  Even when Devi swore your Jeep was made to go through the woods on a 4 wheeler path and I had to sit on your lap,  bumping heads because of the rocks and potholes – I still had a blast.  I adore yall!

This is how Amy and Devi looked at each other the entire day.  LOVE it!

Hannah asked if she could have her horse, Will, in some of the photos.  I was so excited and of course I LOVED the idea!  Aren’t they beautiful?

As a woman, I think it is very important to have other strong, influential women to surround myself with.  I thought during school days that the friends I had then would last a lifetime.  We had plans to grow up, buy a house, share everything and be friends for a lifetime.  Things change so quickly, though, as do people.  While I’m still in touch with a few of them, we have mostly all gone down different paths.  College, careers, marriages, children – we’re all so different now.  This difference is not bad, but in some instances, it has caused a separation.  While I wish them all the best and luck the world has to offer, and I know they do the same for me, it’s still important to have a strong foundation of women around.

I have found some of these women from the most unlikely of circumstances, in some of the most odd places, and some of them are still so different from me.  Some are married, some have children, some have careers – but all are strong.

One I met on a sidewalk at a skateshop while down town Winston at midnight.  One I met while searching for a last minute place to shoot, knowing snow was on the way and there wasn’t an option of re-scheduling.  A few I met online, one dating back 6 years, who became my best friend and confidant, and whom I moved to Georgia to live with on a wing and a prayer.  Some are belly-dancers, some I met by chance through other friends, and my newer ones are fellow photographers.  All of these women bring something positive to my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful.  They forgive me and let me ask questions of motherhood, since that is something I have not and will probably never experience.  They listen when I’m at a crossroad, and they give me tough love.  They are inspiring in all different ways and they never judge.  They are all different ages and have all fought their own battles.  They are all soso beautiful, especially to me.

These women, so different from my school friends and some so different from the others, are what I believe every woman needs.  I happen to be blessed with just enough to make me feel like the world’s luckiest girl.  I’ve never needed a huge social circle, especially since I don’t see myself as a “social butterfly”.  I am lucky enough to have the ones I do.  They may not be ones I see every single day, but I know should I ever need them, they are there.  I can only hope I am the same to all of them.

Here is one of the beautiful women (inside and out) that I am blessed to call a friend.  This shot was taken during a quick 15 minute shoot last week, planned only the day before.  I first saw Sarah’s picture hanging up in the local tattoo shop almost 6 years ago and I KNEW I had to photograph her.  I found and contacted her online and now, 6 years later, she is also a MUA for me, as well as a strong and inspiring woman and friend in my life.

Ashley first contacted me a couple of months ago to set up a portrait session for her family.  Her email couldn’t have been any more perfect.  She told me it would be herself, her husband, their son, and their dog.  She already had a location picked out and she knew she wanted an album and DVD of images.  Sounds perfect, right?

Then she told me – she’s a photographer, too!  This completely changed the game.  Or, so it did in my mind.

As a photographer, I know I see things the average client won’t see in their photos.  Shadows bother me that they never saw to begin with.  Lighting has to be perfect and a stray hair can ruin an image.  I constantly have to remind myself – I am my own worst critic and they are going to LOVE their photos and not give the exposure, depth of field and shadows a second thought.  When you’re shooting for another photographer, though?  All of that goes out the window.

Ashley and I corresponded through email for a few days and then came the question of what I suggested she wear.  She then wrote “…let’s go shopping!”  I knew I liked her by her first email, but now?  I think I’ve found a new best friend!  We met up at Forever 21 the next week and I loved her right away.  She was beautiful, genuine, funny and had amazing style.  We took loads of clothes into the fitting room and passed them back and forth over the wall.  Yes, this meant I bought new stuff, too.  :)

This past Tuesday, we met at the mall again for Ashley to have her makeup done.  (This is included in every package I offer, now with a few different MUA’s around the area).  Ashley knew Sarah, Sarah remembered Ashley, Sarah did a perfect job on her makeup and we both walked out with new purchases, again.  By the way – Benefit Cosmetics ROCKS!

When we arrived in Archdale, at our location, Ashley said “I can’t wait to see what you write on your blog about us…”  I was nervous, so I replied with “Let’s see if we can get some shots, first…”  I was afraid I sounded rude, but I had to reassure her that I was there to give her what she came to me for – and because I’m sure I was WAY more nervous than she admitted to being.

Ashley’s family is so perfect and beautiful.  They are a family of faith, values and impeccable talent.  They are kind and patient and I could have shot with them all day, had I not have run out of suckers for Canon.  I cannot thank them enough for trusting me to capture their family in the light they capture themselves – pure and beautiful.  Since Ashley contacted me, we have become great friends.  We shoot together, teach each other, share and learn from our mistakes and support each other.  I am so grateful for that perfect email she sent, and even more grateful that she just happened to be another photographer.

How perfect was this setting she chose and how adorable are they?!

I have been needing new photos for a while. I have gone back and forth between having my camera in the photos with me or not. I mean, if I post the photos on my photography website, it should be pretty obvious that I’m the photographer, yes? Does having the camera with me just scream TACKY or PROFESSIONAL or DUH!?

I don’t know where it came from, but I just decided to ask Andy if he would mind taking my picture yesterday. I decided against having my camera in the photo for the sake of him using it and (hopefully) getting a decent photo of me. It’s not that I question his skills at all, it’s just, I’m not used to being in front of the lens. I put on an outfit that I thought was pretty cute, but he told me it was tacky, so of course I immediately changed. After seeing the photos he took before, though – I saw he was right. I then changed again, for the second time. I was nervous, stiff, begging for some sort of direction. He gave me a little, but I didn’t know what to do with it! Now, I know some of the pressure my clients have while in front of the lens! After a few minutes, I began to warm up and have fun with it. Those are the photos that eventually made the cut and I have to say, he did a really good job! I kind of felt pretty after seeing them and now I’m trying to talk him into second shooting for me. So far, it’s not happening.

You might notice, along with the new blog design, the new photos above and on the ‘Meet Stacey’ page. Be nice – I’m not used to being in front of the camera and having the man I love behind it!

As for the “tacky” outfit, I still think it’s cute.  The dogs eventually showed up to crash my shoot.  The nerve!

I switched lenses and showed Andy the angle and shot I wanted. On the left is my shot, the right is his. Fast learner! :)

I have known Leslie for a few years now and this was actually the second time I’ve had the pleasure of photographing her.  Leslie is such a strong and inspirational friend and it is always a pleasure to spend time with her.  So down to earth, warm and friendly and an awesome belly dancer!  She lives in a loft apartment down town that has an amazing open floor plan and clean lines, yet feels like home as soon as you walk in.  The balcony has the best views and I think it really compliments her personality. I had a great time on this shoot, just photographing her in her own domain, relaxed and simple.  She was up for anything and had the most fun wardrobe to look through and piece together practical but sexy outfits!

Leslie, thank you for welcoming me into your home and letting me photograph you.  You are so stunning and I think these photos really showcase that.  :)

My great friend Sterling assisted me on this shoot and afterward, Leslie was sweet enough to take us out to brunch at the amazing Sweet Potatoes, all while donning this awesome outfit!

Do you ever go to a blog and see there are no updates and take it a little personally? You feel a little let down – since the anticipation had been growing ever since you sat down at your computer and started going through your favorite blog to read for the day. No update yet, so you get a little upset, sigh a little, and decide to just come back later. 10 minutes later you wonder to yourself. What if they have updated now? I have to hurry and check! Clickclickclick as fast as you can. And then nothing. No update. No update since yesterday. The nerve!

I know I feel like this on some blogs I read daily. I don’t REALLY get upset, but I do anxiously await some bloggers to update. I love to read the new happenings, see the new photos, hear about their learning experience, laugh with them and learn new things from them. Carla told me she also feels this way. The only thing that’s different? She feels this way about MY blog! When she confessed this, I wanted to hug her. I thought I was a weirdo for visiting blogs with huge hopes of an update and leaving mildly offended (not really) and disappointed (really) that nothing new is posted. It’s silly when you think about it, but it’s a simple pleasure. Like the anticipation to have a phone call returned you’ve been waiting on, or when you’re expecting a package or letter in the mail for days and you check, every day, hoping it’s there.

I was so flattered and a little embarrassed to know I had an admirer out there that really loved what I did to the point of anticipating my new posts. I get a lot of personal email and comments on my Facebook when I update, but I suppose since I don’t receive comments on my actual blog posts that often, I assume people are just drifting through. I do see in my stats that I have tons of visitors, even a lot of return visitors, but it’s just nice knowing someone likes and appreciates my hard work and gets excited at the thought of an update about my life or photos I’ve taken recently!

Carla hired me for a boudoir shoot (will post a few on Valentine’s Day) but when we finished up, I wanted to just snap some photos of her around her home. She’s such a funny and beautiful soul and I loved spending time with her and her furry children. She’s a huge animal lover just like I am and had the cutest and sweetest dogs I’ve ever seen. After getting to know her a little better and seeing the passion for animals and beauty in her life, I can say I feel honored that she’s my blog stalker, and a little less alone as I go through my world awaiting new blog updates on a daily basis! Carla – I’m sorry I have disappointed you, and – *cheers* – this post’s to you!

Aren’t I lucky to have such a cute blog stalker?!

I adore everything about this photo.

Work it! :)

This next one is blurry but there’s just something about it that I adore.

Meet Andie.   She is a foster from the Boston Terrier Rescue of NC (BTRNC), is blind and was not expected to live past last Spring after being diagnosed with cancer – but here she is!
