With my focus switching to my upcoming weddings, I wanted to experiment a little with one of the more fun shots – the rings!  I only had mine to play around with for these, but it was a fun challenge none the less.

Gone are the days of traditional rings-on-fingers-draped-over-bouquet photos.  Well, they’re gone if you hire me as your wedding photographer.  I like to spice things up, push the limits and make the ring shot super fun.  As always with my photos, I like to personalize them around WHO the couple is.  I like to bring in texture, color, details, etc.  After all, the rings are a big part of the day and the deed, so why not add a little something special to let them stand out?

As a side note, I have been receiving a lot of photographer’s questions through email, facebook and elsewhere.  I have come up with a place to let everyone who has them ask their question and perhaps see if someone else asked something else they’d like to know.  The answers are there for everyone to see, but as always, I never claim to know everything or even know the RIGHT way.  I just know what has worked for me and if you’re a photographer interested in how I do things, feel free to head over to my formspring and ask your question or see if it’s already been answered.

Here are just a few of my favorites, all shot using small details around our home.

This shot isn’t so “pretty”, but it is completely me.  I love skulls, anatomy and pretty things.

I love the butterfly here.  Once again, maybe not so pretty, but the ring stands out!

I was invited along to join my friend and fellow photographer, Ashley Stone, with her bridal shoot today.  I was there to assist and Ashley was sweet enough to let me shoot, too! :)   I can not stress enough how amazing it is to have local photographers as friends and to learn and teach each other instead as competition.  I mean, the whole reason Ashley and I even met is because she hired to shoot her family portraits next month.  Yeah, the stress of shooting another photographer’s photos?  We’ll cover that in another blog post!  I am so excited, though – because Ashley is genuine and funny and believes in me and my work. I cannot thank her enough for allowing me to come along and share in her fun and beautiful shoot!

She will be photographing Brittany’s wedding next month and today we met up at Childress Vineyards for the bridals.  Brittany brought a friend along as did Ashley to help assist and they were all such sweet and beautiful girls and I really did have a blast.  I don’t want to post any of the photos showing her face yet, though, just in case her husband gets wind of my website somehow.  After her wedding, you better believe I’m posting her gorgeous session, though!  Be sure to check out Ashley’s blog within the next few days for more and to see her wedding on September 11th!

Whew! I apologize for the lack of updates here! I promise it’s not because I’m lazy or slacking, but instead because I’m been super busy shooting boudoir sessions.  Hop on over to Simply-Boudoir to check them out if interested!

I am finally able to backtrack a little (OK, a lot) to some shoots I have done over the past few months. On top of being busy shooting boudoir sessions, I have also been talking to future brides and booking weddings for next year! I took a break from them this year and am still being very picky about the ones I shoot next year, but I am really excited about the upcoming weddings and super beautiful brides! :)

Since weddings have been at the forefront a lot lately, I thought I’d edit a shoot I did earlier this year. You may remember the casting call I did for a free makeover from my MUA for her portfolio and to showcase our work as a new team. Bethany was one of the beautiful ladies chosen and I asked her to bring along her wedding gown so we could take some bridal photos. She looked stunning and I loved the simplicity yet glamorous look of her makeup, hair and wedding dress. Here are a few of my favorites!

Unfortunately, it rained all morning long, so we had to stay around the salon/house.  Thank goodness for a beautiful wrap around porch, though!

I LOVE the mixture of tungsten and natural lighting.  Since I shoot natural light, the overcast day was perfect.  In all of the following shots, Bethany was lit from the front by natural light while tungsten light flowed around her in the back.

I have had trouble with where to start this blog post.  Do I start with how they met?  How I know them?  What role they play in my and Andy’s life?  In all of these cases, I always come back to the point that what matters is where they are now.  What a magical, beautiful and perfect couple they are today.

I will state that Thomas is Andy’s childhood best friend.  They’ve grown up together and eventually, Andy and I met through Thomas.  Only a year later, Melina came into Thomas’ life.  2 weeks ago, friends and family from both sides had the pleasure to spend a week in beautiful Cherry Grove, South Carolina to watch these two promise their lives to each other.  It was a week full of laughs, reminiscing of old memories and making new ones, tears and a LOT of fun.  The wedding day was flawless and I don’t think there was a dry tear on the beach that day.  It was simple, as they are.  It involved their closest friends, just as their lives always have.  It was a week long celebration, and I think it really reflected how selfless and fun these two really are.

Melina and Thomas – you two are a beautiful and inspiring couple. Young, fun, sincere and great friends to both each other and your peers. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to capture this day for you. You were both radiant and I wish you nothing but the best for the rest of your lives and beyond!

Now, for lots and lots of pictures!  As posted before, Melina and Thomas also did a Trash the Dress session, which will be posted soon!  For now, the wedding!

Thomas, his friends and father.

Melina and her baby, Tito!

Such a simple yet stunning bride.

I loved this moment of Thomas patiently waiting and trying to stop the tears before the wedding.

Fact: Thomas is very tech savvy and both enjoy gaming and computers – so I found this setup to be fitting.

Thomas and his handsome brothers.

My favorite shot from the day.  I love the energy and everything about this moment.

Looking quite dapper!

There is no better way to get married – feet in the sand and barefoot!

Perfection.
