Yesterday while mowing the yard, I did my normal route through the orchard.  This years harvest seems unreal and most of the limbs on the trees are breaking under pressure from the apples and pears.  The ones that are falling on the ground are rotting quickly and there is a whole other eco-system going on down there, it seems.

Now, I am deathly afraid of bees.  All bees, except bumble bees.  Can’t stand them, scream like the girl I am when they’re around and run away if one is near me.  With that being said, these photos were beyond scary for me to take.  There were bumble bees, yellow jackets (ugh!!!), hornets and wasps(even though they’re not technically bees, I still see them as such) covering the ground and rotten fruit hanging from the tree.  Among them, though – were beautiful butterflies.  Every now and again, a huge hornet would chase after a butterfly, or you would see the bottom of one move only to see a bumble bee crawling out of the fruit it’s sitting on.  Beyond gross, but amazing at the same time.

I took this chance to test out two of my new lenses – my 85mm and 35mm.  These are just a few of my favorite shots, with a REAL view of what was beneath it all at the end.  I’m sure you’ve heard the saying – “Do one thing every day that scares you”.  Well, I think this pretty much counts me in for the whole Month of August!

This was my first visit to Cherry Grove, South Carolina and my first time to the beach in over 5 years.  I grew up going to the beach every year or at least every other year, but as I got older, it was up to ME to go.  With life and money and jobs now in order, it wasn’t as easy to get up and go every Summer as I once thought.

Andy and I also enjoyed our first vacation together when we joined our friends at the beach for Thomas and Melina’s wedding.  We had an amazing 4 story house and lounged around for a week.  It was pure bliss, and these are just a few of the photos I took during our week long stay.

We’ve had a pretty harsh winter here in North Carolina and we fared pretty well, especially with that nasty flu that was going around.  Now that the weather is changing, though, I’ve been feeling a little off.  Don’t get me wrong, I am SO ready for the warm weather to make it’s way to us.  I am ready for things to start blooming, to hear the birds singing every morning and to be able to walk around comfortably outside.  I’m just feeling a little more tired and generally not feeling well for the past few days.

I’m also a little burned out on hot lattes and would like some iced ones for a change.  ;)

While Mother Nature does her thing, I am busy shooting and editing and trying to get my head back on track.  Heather Foster, my MUA, and myself are going to be doing a video FAQ next week.  We need everyone to submit your questions you may have to either of us (about makeup, shooting, makeup before a shoot, what makeup adds to a shoot, etc..) so we can answer them for you on video.  Feel free to ask as many questions as you’d like and we’ll answer as many as we can without being too boring and looking too goofy.  Just leave them in the comments below.

And because posts are better with photos, here’s a little Spring-time inspiration to hold us over until Spring is officially here.

Snow has covered the ground for almost a week now. While to some this is the norm and no big deal at all, this is the second big snow storm North Carolina has seen this season – with a 3rd on the way tonight. While it’s beautiful to look at and nice to eat and play in, being snowed in with no way to get out is no fun at all. This has been the case for 5 out of the last 7 days. Unfortunately, because of this, I had to reschedule two shoots. On the flip side, it’s a nice change of scenery and a lot of fun to go out and photograph. The sky is so different when it snows and I love the rolling clouds and beautiful sunsets we get. These are just a handful of the photos I’ve taken over the past week while being snowed in – so all were taken around our farm. Wish us luck as we have another storm coming in tonight – that we an get out soon and everyone stays safe and warm!

So here we are, a thick white blanket of snow on the ground and everything else.  As much as I wish for snow each year, I was kind of hesitant for this one to come in.  I have a bridal shoot scheduled for tomorrow that has been in the works for almost a month.  At the last minute, everything fell into place to make this such an epic shoot.  The location I booked, the props I rented from a local theatre, booking my amazing makeup artist, and the wonderful bride herself that contacted me about the shoot.  And now?  Now we have a foot of snow (and counting) to shoot in.

I will go into more details in the actual post with photos from the shoot about where and who I booked with and the lovely people that have helped make this all possible.  For now, though – why not snap away some shots of how beautiful North Carolina looks this evening, covered in powder and in a stillness only snow can offer.  I headed out covered head to toe in fleece, my camera wrapped in a plastic Target bag, snow and wind whipping at my face, just to capture a little bit of the beauty Mother Nature has to offer.

Wish us luck on our shoot tomorrow and for safe travels for everyone.  We are determined to make this work for us instead of against us – and hopefully everyone will have a blast in the meantime.  Until then, enjoy these few snapshots I took this evening.
