Archive for January, 2010

I am sorry for the gaps between posts lately.  I have been super busy with shooting, editing, ordering and delivering lots and lots of photos.  I can’t complain, because it all feels amazing.  I just find myself pushing into overdrive, trying to do too much at once and not finding time to post in between.

The makeover mini-shoots were a huge success.  I want to thank everyone that emailed me and those whom were chosen and came along!  The least fun part of this whole thing was actually choosing the ladies, as I really didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.  This was never a beauty contest, but more about getting a lot of different looks and availability and building a portfolio.

Heather has been amazing, showing up early while her family stays home and plays all day.  She did such an amazing job on everyone’s makeup and really proved her talent over and over again from one look to another.  I think all of the ladies had fun, and I also want to thank them for taking time out of their schedules for a little makeover and photo shoot.  Not only were they beautiful to begin with, but as I got to know more about each one, I realized just how amazing and beautiful they were as a person as well.

As I tend to do, these shoots were extended a bit beyond simple head-shots.  Everyone was just so laid back and fun and easy to work with, so I couldn’t stop shooting despite rain and way overcast skies on BOTH days we shot!  I will get around to posting their full shoots soon, but for now – here is the outcome of Heather and I’s handy work of working together as a team.  I am SO excited to have her on board, and her makeup application is part of every package I offer.

First, a photo of Heather working her magic.

I have so many things in store for both my life and photography business this year and I’m finding it hard to keep up with it all!  So many great things are happening and I’m really progressing  as an individual, business and artist.  You may notice a few changes around the blog (and soon to be portfolio), but the most important is that I now have a makeup artist on board and she will be offering her professional airbrush makeup for all of my shoots from here on out!  It’s already included in the (new) packages, and if you don’t want it, you can simply opt out.

I will post more on this soon, as well as fun new products coming up.  I’m trying really hard to keep on top of everything, while still making changes and making better and more exciting things happen.  This year is the beginning of making my photography business a full blown exciting experience for everyone involved – both behind the lens and in front of it.

I cannot wait to blog the exciting changes as they unfold, but for now, feel free to browse the links at the top, see the changes that are in store and send me an email if you have any questions.

And since posts are more fun with photos, here is a sneak peek at a few of my latest shoots – all to be blogged on their own in the coming weeks.

I have posted quite a few photos here for the past couple of years of Heather. With every shoot, I was fortune enough to learn more about her, get to know her more personally and even learn from her as a fellow artist and photographer. Last weekend’s shoot was probably one that I hold above all of the rest, though. Not only is Heather beautiful, smart, personable, talented, unique and strong – she is also now a mother.

This shoot was very personal for Heather and Penny and I was and still am very touched and humbled that she let into their lives to share in this new experience. I almost wanted to sit my camera down and just watch Heather – so caring, devoted, and in love with her new little baby girl. This is a strange feeling for me, as I have come to the conclusion, though very personal, that I do not want children of my own. Seeing a mother so in love with her newborn baby, though, is truly something to behold. The bond between little Penny and Heather was so personal, so quiet, and so unknown to anyone but them.

Heather, I adore you – and I cannot thank you enough for sharing this time of your lives with me. You and Penny are in my thoughts daily and I really believe you are going to be one hell of a team of ladies. You are not only an outstanding person and woman, but now, an outstanding mother. Know that everyone surrounding you is standing on the sidelines cheering for you and you will always be a light in the lives of everyone you meet, especially Penny Jane.

Magen first contacted me a few months ago via email.  She was a portrait photographer from the next city over looking for peers and she had a few technical questions she wanted to ask as well.  “Please don’t feel like you have to tell me your secrets, though”, she said.  “I understand if it’s a conflict of interest”.  I quickly wrote her back, telling her I LOVED helping other photographers out and to ask away – and to teach me a few things while she’s at it!

We kept in touch and she inquired about a portrait session for she and her husband as a Christmas gift from Mark to her.  Of course I was more than happy to oblige and even more excited to finally get to meet the lovely lady I had been talking with through email for a few months now.

She explained that both she and Mark were into acting and theatre and wanted a very silly shoot, but with some serious shots thrown in as well.  They actually showed up to our shoot with a ‘Bag ‘O Fun’ full of hats and wigs and props and masks.  They were oodles of fun to work with and I am going to split their photos into two posts.  This first one is of the more serious photos we took – and look at how stunning this couple is.  Magen was everything I thought she’d be and more and I cannot wait to hang out more in the future.  Girl is talented, beautiful and funny to boot!  I honestly walked away from this shoot feeling inspired, in both my photography and my personal relationship.  These two know how to have fun and be silly together, and they encompass true compatibility and comfort within a relationship.  I found myself both laughing out loud and sighing while editing these photos – and THAT is how I love to be effected by a photoshoot.

It was FREEZING the day they came to Winston, and with the windchill, I’m pretty sure it was around 10 degrees outside.  They were SUCH troopers, though!  Are they not a beautiful couple with killer style?

I loved this natural chemistry between them throughout the whole shoot.

Open to women 18+ and of all ethnicity.  All local ladies and even those who don’t live so close to Winston Salem are welcome to enter, but please be aware that you must pay for your own gas.  Makeup and shoot will be done at a local salon and the exact name and address will be emailed to the selected ladies chosen.  Everything included (airbrushing makeup and head shot with one edited large resolution image) is free with no hidden costs.

Since we only have a select number of openings, please make sure you can make your date and time if selected and please try to be on time.  If you are available for multiple times in a day, please state those times in your email.  Makeup will take approximately 30-45 minutes to apply and your shoot will take approximately 15 minutes.  This is just a fun mini shoot to assure we get great photos that show off your features and beautiful makeup and you will be given the option to purchase additional photos aside from the one free large resolution file that will be emailed to you.

Join in the fun and tell all the ladies you know to join.  This is going to be a low stress, relaxed, girl’s day just for you to be pampered.  Please be assured that this is not a beauty contest.  All entries will be looked over by Heather and I to decide on the 10 ladies that give us a wide range of diversity for this shoot.  The ladies not chosen will have other options presented to them for makeup and a shoot – so everyone wins!

Only entries submitted via email will be counted and must be submitted to me before Wednesday, January 13, 2010.  Email all submissions to stacey@staceylynnstudio.com .

Good luck to everyone and I look forward to meeting you and having a super fabulous and fun day with you!

Welcome, 2010!

Wow, where has time gone? The first week of 2010 is almost over already! I had a few posts ready to blog and before I knew it, I had already shot my first 2 shoots of 2010 and have hardly had time to catch up on the blog.

First off, I want to thank everyone for their generosity on contributing to Comments for a Cause. I am going to match every comment made here over the 2 days that I ran the contest and donate 50 cans of food to our local animal shelter. I am probably going to donate the food this weekend and will be sure to take my camera along with me as well!

Second, within the next couple of days, I am going to have a “casting call” for sorts for all ladies around the area. What’s in it for you? Free professional airbrushing makeup and one free edited large resolution image that I take of you after being dolled up. This casting is for all local women (or those willing to drive to Winston Salem), 18 years or older. Mothers, daughters, models, teachers – every type of woman can apply. In 2010, I am offering professional airbrushed makeup with all of my photo packages from my dear friend Heather. She is a licensed and professional makeup artist and this casting call is to build a portfolio for both she and I to use. We will have 2 days, 10 ladies each day, to come to Winston Salem, have your makeup applied and I will photograph a head shot for you to have. In return, a print will go into both Heather and I’s portfolio as well. More details coming soon – but tell all of the special ladies in your lives to keep an eye open on the blog for more details in the coming days.

Speaking of 2010, I am pumped to offer new and exciting products this year, and to add awesome goodies to my shoots, like the above mentioned professional makeup. This will be added into each package automatically, so for those who would rather do their own – that’s totally OK! I just figured, if I were going to pay for photos and have an awesome day either with just the photographer or I, or especially if I’m with my special someone in the photos, I want to look my best! I’m also going to offer super fun albums – very fresh and colorful and fun with lots of personality.

I’m so excited to get the ball rolling this year. The first weekend of 2010, I had two shoots – a couple shoot with a fellow amazing portrait photographer (not to mentioned, beautiful and SO funny) and her ridiculously funny husband, and my first ever boudoir shoot. I probably will not be posting many (if any) photos from the boudoir shoot as that was a private shoot for a special lady, but I can promise you we kept it classy and fun and comfortable. Very girly, very sexy and VERY laid back. For those interested in a boudoir shoot, feel free to send me an email and we’ll set up the details for you!

Now, for a sneak peek from one of, if not THE funnest shoots I have ever taken part in. I adore Magen and Mark and this is only the calm side of the shoot.  You have to check back tomorrow for the full post.  Let’s just say, they literally brought a ‘Bag ‘O Fun’ to the shoot – including wigs, masks, glasses, hats and more!  Seriously – we had THE best time.
