Last week, I had the pleasure of shooting my friend and fellow photographer, Heather Smith’s maternity session. This shoot marked her 33rd week carrying her and her husband’s baby girl.  She is an artist herself, so we wanted to play that up, with fun poses and offbeat maternity photos.

Heather has been a source of inspiration for a few years now. Her quiet nature, positive spirit and attitude radiate all around her. She is a creative soul that glows greatness from the inside out. We have worked together quite a few times, and I never underestimate what we can make happen by the end of our shoots. She’s up for anything, we collaborate our ideas and the end result is usually better than either of us expected.

“This would be totally awkward and wrong, if I wasn’t pregnant”, she said.  We stepped out onto the front porch of an old carriage maker’s house in down town Winston Salem, and she was wearing nothing but a bathing suit, shirt and heels.  It was rush hour, people were driving by and we had to laugh.

Heather, Congratulations again to you and Bryan, and thank you so much for letting me have the opportunity to capture this special time for you. I cannot wait to meet her, and I just know you’re going to be the best parents ever!

I love Heather’s sense of style and great collection of cool hats!

Easily one of my most favorite photos I’ve ever shot.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ashley a couple of weeks ago for a maternity shoot.  She was due in two weeks from the shoot and needless to say, that made me a little nervous!  After all, I don’t have any experience with delivering babies.  Here it is two weeks later and her little baby girl still hasn’t made an appearance, and she is scheduled to be induced in a few days if the baby still hasn’t come.

Anyway, I had a great time with this super sweet lady!  She was so much fun to shoot and her style was killer, even being 9 months pregnant.  I loved the yellow and white dress she had and when I saw she brought yellow heels, I HAD to ask if she was really going to wear them.  She replied Girl, yeah – I may be pregnant but I ain’t trying to be ugly! and I knew we’d get along perfectly!

Meet the adorable and awesome Ashley, and her soon to be here baby girl, Viviana.

Ashley had seen a self portrait I had taken with paint and loved the idea, so we incorporated it into her shoot.

Then we mixed the idea up a little.  How cute is she?!

Next, a bit more soft and romantic.

Now for stylish!  LOVE those yellow heels I mentioned earlier!
